The Christmas Season
"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year..."
Christmas is not only fun- it represents the humble birth of the Savior that redeemed us all from our sins.
Christmas is not only fun- it depicts stories and challenges of charity and changes of heart.
Be with your feeling during the season, love them, give to them...

Auto Drama
So, tomorrow I have to perform something in Acting. One problem: I'M SICK! MY VOICE IS GONE! I'VE BEEN SICK ALL WEEK! I AM NOT PREPARED! Haha. Well, life can be exceedingly stressful at times, can it not? What I have to perform is an auto drama, which is a three to four minute script you write as your own character. You write something that will effectively depict something significant in your life. The hard part: comparing your life/story to inanimate objects. I have it all written and mostly memorized, I'm just nervous because I have been so sick. :) Oh well! It'll be okay, I just have to tell myself that.

Friends...
I have some dear friends that are also performers. Last night, they made me sing "In My Own Little Corner" for them! I did NOT want to, haha. I felt very self-conscious because I definitely like bigger audiences because I feel less judged.
But singing for them last night brought back amazing memories of "Cinderella." In the long run, I'm glad they made me. They were so sweet about it with compliments, which truly is the basis of a performer's confidence. Everybody needs friends like that.

Lightbulb Jokes
Theater Humor! haha
Q: Why don't stage managers get breaks?
A: Because it's too hard to re-train them.
Q: How many pencils does a stage manager have?
A: One. He can draw another one out of his hair
if he loses it.
***
Q: How many actors does it take to change a light
bulb?
A: None. Complain to the director at notes.
Q: How many directors does it take to change a
light bulb?
A: None. Give a note to the stage manager to fix
it!
Q: How many stage managers does it take to change
a light bulb?
A: None. Pull the technical director off a set
installation to deal with it.
Q: How many technical directors does it take to
change a light bulb?
A: None. Call the master electrician at home to
fix it.
Q: How many master electricians does it take to
change a light bulb?
A: We don't change bulbs, only halogen lamps.
It's a props problem.
Q: How many props masters does it take to change
a light bulb?
A: Light bulb?! When did they even get a lamp?
Q: How many theater critics does it take to screw
in a light bulb?
A: All of them - one to be highly critical of the
design elements, one to express contempt for the
glow of the lamp, one to lambast the
interpretation of wattage used, one to critique
the performance of the bulb itself, one to recall
superb light bulbs of past seasons and lament how
this one fails to measure up, and all to join in
the refrain, reflecting on how they could build a
better light bulb in their sleep.
Q: How many theater students does it take to
screw in a light bulb?
A: Erm, what's the deadline? I may need an
extension.
Q: How many audience members does it take to
change a light bulb?
A: Three. One to do it, one child to cry and
another to say, "ROSE, HE'S CHANGING THE LIGHT
BULB."
Q: How many interns does it take to change a
light bulb?
A: It doesn't matter, because you'll have to do
it again, anyway.
Q: How many directors does it take to change a
light bulb?
A: 4... no, make that 3... on second thought 4...
well, better make it 5, just to be safe.
Q: How many assistant directors does it take to
change a light bulb?
A: One. But s/he has to check with the director
first to make sure he wants the bulb there.
Q: How many producers does it take to change a
light bulb?
A: None. Why do we need another light bulb?

Endings... Beginnings
It is difficult to let Cinderella go... I cannot believe this spectacular show has come to an end. We all had laughs, we all cried at some point (due to high amounts of stress), and overall we all now obtain the most magical memories to cherish forever. I am so thankful I was able to play Cinderella, to touch people's hearts with the talents I have worked at for so long.
I had mountains of fun... I love every little girl and boy that asked for a picture- asked just to say hi to Cinderella. I love every cast member that shared these precious moments with me. I love my director and her encouragement- her belief in little old me... Just a little sophomore.
Theater is not over for me. I have many more shows to come during high school- COLLEGE! And who knows what else?
I always have room to improve, I always have room for more memories. :)

I GOT MY HAIR DONE!
So, I sat in a chair for three hours as a nice lady highlighted my hair to look more like Cinderella for the show... It was bearable with access to a Harry Potter book that I've read many times before... haha. :) Well, now my hair looks SUPER light, but I actually like it. I was scared it would look bad, or something. I just hope my director likes/loves it enough for the show.
Christy Lynn
P.S. You know how scared I was about kissing the prince? It was awkward the first time, but we've done it five times now. I think we've got it down. Haha. I'm glad we can still be friends with everything... SO! THE SHOW STARTS IN 7 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! Not that I'm counting down, or anything. :)

My Braces
So my last post mentioned the worth of every soul, right??? Well, my faith in that was tested today when I figured out that the strongly desired ritual of taking off my braces would be post-poned for another month... I don't feel like a true princess with braces.
I know i should have more self-esteem. What should I do????

Insecurities
All performers are made victim to various insecurities that can indefinitely cause his/her downfall. Many wonder if they are pretty/talented enough... The question they always ask themselves, "Do I actually deserve this role?"
I have been asking myself this question a lot lately. A friend of mine reassured me through these trials that I wouldn't get the role if I didn't deserve it... He proved that everyone is special children of God that receive blessings and responsibilities they can inevitably handle.
One must know of their importance within the world... We all have the potential to be the best we can as divine beings.
My friends and family are a blessing to me- without them, I would be lost. The lack of their glorious support and kindness gets me through the hardships that come my way.

My Hair...
Well, turns out my hair will now be dyed blond, and I'm kind of really scared/nervous about it. I've NEVER dyed my hair before... Haha. I'll be interested to see how it turns out... Maybe it will be so-o-o-o-o terrible that I will never look in a mirror again and have someone else do my hair and make-up.
People are really excited for me, and I am just terrified! Haha. :/ It'll be okay! I just have to remember that. :)

The Costumes
The story begins with a stepmother and her two daughters ordering a lonesome Cinderella around town. Cinderella has on a puffy-sleeved top over a raggedy blue skirt. Haha. I'm so-o-o-o excited!!! I have no idea what any other character is wearing, though. But I do know that the prince and Cinderella are going to wear almost the exact same things at the ball like in the Disney movie. You know, the blue dress and the princely outfit thing. Haha.
I also know that I will be wearing a wedding dress at the end. OH! I ALMOST FORGOT! I wear my mother's dress at one part when my family makes fun of me for wanting to go to the ball.
Okay, this was a really short post, but I don't know what else to say. :)

Awkward Part 1
So... The Prince and Cinderella have to be in love, right?? Haha. I'm having a hard time acting out the very first scene: they run into each other and instantly fall in love. Nothing against my prince, it's just really awkward for me. Our director had us hug until she said stop. That was kind of silly. :P I'm just really nervous for when we get to the kissing scene. I'm to try to get more acquainted to this guy, so it's less awkward.
I just have to remember that everything will be okay. :)
Today, I also want to discuss the idea of dreams and aspirations. A dream or a wish cannot come true unless you act upon it. We have come to this earth to act, not be acted upon. That basically means that instead of "going with the flow" and letting things happen to you, do something to improve or to even have fun! The same thing is with theater... You must put effort into every scene, audition, etc.
So, I think I have put a lot of advice on this blog in the past month or two. How to audition well, how to cope with show business, how to maintain your standards, how to work with beats... I hope I'm helping some of you! :)

Maintaining One's Standards
Some of you may or may not know this, but I am Mormon. Yes, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I truly love my religion. I hope this doesn't offend any of you.
As a member, I feel inclined to continuously strive to obtain a strong faith in Christ and our Heavenly Father as I go about being a good example. With this comes limits and standards I have set for myself. Some of these standards include modesty, appropriate dating, good language, etc. I believe, personally, that these need to be maintained even when performing on stage.
As Cinderella, my director my want me to wear a dress that may be too revealing. Now, revealing for me is showing the shoulders and back- having pants or dresses going above the knees, even. Oh! And it's important to mention how a top can't be too low. I am struggling with a way to bring this up to my director. I am scared, actually. But I have a testimony about how God can help me in any situation... I have faith that if I pray, I will have the courage to shine with virtue. I must also remember that my director is super nice, and I have nothing to worry about. :)
Maybe this was advice to some of you, maybe it offended others. But this is truly what I strive for. I love the Gospel and keeping the standards.

Act 1
So... we have been rehearsing for a total of two weeks, and we already
have most of Act 1 done!!!! We should have the first act all set by the
end of next week. Now, some advice from me, MEMORIZE YOUR EXTREMELY
IMPORTANT LINES. Trust me, since I memorized my lines and songs,
rehearsals have not been nearly as stressful. But I am still extremely
tired from night after night of practicing. Truthfully, I love it!
More advice : don't compare yourself to others. If you get a role, you DESERVED it. I have been having problems in this area, too. Also, I am terrified that I have to kiss someone. I have nothing against the guy - he's very attractive - I just... I really don't know.
So... Act 1 is SUPER fun! Bunches of music and some really funny and cute scenes. The stepmother is so-o-o-o mean, by the way. Haha. Well, not the person who is playing my stepmother, but you probably know what I'm saying.
Even more advice: Don't be afraid to be outgoing at rehearsals... Feel comfortable around the cast. It'll be a lot more fun that way.

Blocking
So, we have had three rehearsals with all of the leads. The chorus and mice will join us this next-coming Thursday. Guess how much we've blocked in that amount of time (blocking is determining where you stand, walk, etc. in a scene)? ALL OF ACT 1! Except for the songs, of course. That's a whole new level. I have to memorize Act 1's dialogue and blocking by tomorrow! Haha, oh theater life.
Blocking can definitely be tedious and tiring. 2-3 hour rehearsals + blocking = exhaustion. But I love it, regardless. The cast is great, everybody's nice... I am still thrilled to be doing this. Thursday is when we start putting in the music- a lot of music plus extreme amounts of dancing.

Rehearsing
So, I had my first rehearsal yesterday- it was a a read-through the script, which was mega fun. Haha. I think I killed the highlighter I was using. :) Today I have to rehearse again for THREE HOURS! I'm excited, though.
For the next couple of months, I have to rehearse every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I am absolutely thrilled to be working with an amazing cast!
Now... the script... that thing is fun! With a lot of memorizing, blocking, and true acting/singing- I'm in for a good one, right??? The scene I can't WAIT to perform is when I sing with my Fairy Godmother. POOF! Pretty dress! :D
My advice to you for memorizing a script:
1.) Become your character (that's a huge process and very important.)
2.) Read your lines out loud
3.) Keep reading your lines out loud
4.) STUDY the script, LOVE the script, LIVE the script
5.) REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT!!!!!!!!
It's pretty much self-explanatory, don't you think? It is truly vital to become familiar with your script for the performance, no joke! Haha.

More Info About the Cast
I am so prepared to have a blast performing as Cinderella with a lot of theater buds. :) We will all, for sure, have exceeding amounts of fun.
So, the musical we are doing is the Rodgers and Hammerstein's version. So yes, as Cinderella, I get to sing various songs... but I also have to kiss someone. :/ Not THAT excited for this little tid bit. Haha. It'll be a blast regardless.
I must always remember the virtue in being humble and not judging others- I also must dwell upon the fact that I should not ever care what other people think about me. It is vital to get on that stage and control the crowd, not the other way around.
The leads in this musical is a double-cast. The director couldn't decide between people, so another girl and I will be taking turns performing. I hope there is not a lot of competition between the two different casts... But of course I will definitely provide bunches of support to the other cast! :)
Rehearsals start tomorrow. I get the script, and we read through it for our first practice. I am absolutely thrilled!!!!!

How My Audition Went
So... I auditioned for the musical Tuesday... I think I did pretty well. The director's said it was really good! But the most exciting thing is that I was called back for the character... CINDERELLA!!!!!!! I'm only against three girls for that part, and I'm really nervous. They had me read some lines to everybody and sing the song again. Everybody said I did perfectly, but I don't know.
It is so-o-o-o-o-o hard to be called back, and I am thrilled I was called back for the part I want! Oh my gosh! I'm very, very, very, very, very excited.
Also, another thing, the director was telling my friend how talented I am. I AM SO NERVOUS! The other girls are very good, too. I don't know if I'll even end up being Cinderella. Maybe. :) I promise I'll let all of you know.

I forgot to tell you guys what monologue I was doing! I am so lazy sometimes. Haha. Well, I'm doing that first monologue from one of my previous posts. You know, the one when a girl named Angie is recounting her relationship to her ex-boyfriend (who happens to be a magician.) It's really fun. My friend who is helping me and I decided that she should be emotional and a little psychotic... That's the thing about monologues. You have to make sure you have a very strong character and put A LOT of beats in there. I think I said this the other day, but a monologue is boring if there is no change in emotion or dynamic.
Never be afraid to write on your monologue A LOT! This is called scoring. Scoring is when you write notes about when and where you pause, rise in pitch, get angry, etc. All of these markings are great ways to create a perfect performance. You don't want to just say the lines- you need feeling. Do you know what I mean??? I hope so.
So, my monologue has been perfected as much as possible. :) Now I'm turning my focus on the song, "In My Own Little Corner." Honestly, I am more of a singer than anything. I have been doing it for a much longer time than the other performing arts.
*Sigh* Yup, I'm sighing. I cannot wait anymore for the audition. I'm determined to blow the director's away. I will strive to stay positive, regardless of the times I tend to put myself down.

Potential
I have a wonderful friend that has been aiding me in my audition. It is going pretty well, actually. :)
This friend said to me today, "Christy, I want to help you be in the limelight. You are going to go far. I think you are very talented. I hope you realize this about yourself. You are definitely going to go a long way."
I thought about this a lot today... It is interesting. As human beings, we are all divine- potentially god-like (for we are all Children of God.). We must realize that about ourselves. We have all been given various talents to play our own vital roles in life.
Auditions are in 5 days... I will try to keep my self-worth in mind.

A monologue requires the strong emotions and dynamics. My friend and I have been working on the "beats" of my monologue (change in emotion or dynamic.). It is really fun, and we are getting along pretty well. My character seems princessy at first, but then she comes across as crazy/emotional. It'll be fun to perform!
I also got my song Friday... "In My Own Little Corner." That's a very pretty song.
Auditions are in nine days!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! I'm so excited/nervous. :)

Your footsteps echo across the entire theater as you step onto the stage. Expectant faces are staring up at you, some smiling, some frowning- they all await to blown away. You take a deep breath as you feel the heat of the lights warm your body into a feeling of comfort. You smile and lift your head up high, prepared to become a star.
People may suffer anxiety or self-consciousness as they perform- I know I feel that way sometimes. I go through what could be called low self-esteem sometimes. It is definitely hard to overcome the feeling of awkwardness when you have the impression that everyone is judging you. You're at the audience's mercy, right? Wrong. They are at YOU'RE mercy, you just have to make sure they know that.
I strive to become confident as I step forward in my goals and dreams. I hope who ever is reading this feels inspired or motivated to boost a certain self-confidence and trust in themselves.

You Should Always Get Help
Sometimes it can be stressful to work on a performance all by yourself, with no one to give their opinion. Whenever you are working on something, I recommend you share it. You could get a lot of valuable suggestions and advice, or compliments to lift you up. That's why I asked one of my good friends, she's two years older, to help me with my audition for the musical. She was so excited when I asked her! She promised me I'll become a star. :)

The Search for a Monologue...
My least favorite part of auditioning is finding a monologue, I must say. You have to make sure it's PERFECT and blows the director away. It's got to obtain pieces of the character I am trying out for, but most of all, I have to like it.
I have found four monologues so far. All of them are dramatic, which is good. But I'm not sure which one, or if either one will work for me.
Here are the monologues I found if you want to read them:
#1:
Oh yes, I loved you. So many things. Safety,
words exchanged, letters. I would cough and the phone would ring and it
would be you, asking if I was all right. You could imitate me and make
me laugh. You would buy me a little thing. When I made Spaghetti for
you, you were so grateful, Pavarotti himself couldn’t have made better
Spaghetti. We were at a restaurant and a woman came up to you, flirting
and right there in front of her, you laced your fingers between mine,
showing her who you loved.
But the most powerful was the tennis shoe. Oh, I cried. After our week in the tropics- where we collapsed, ended- a month later, not having spoken, you sent me a tennis shoe. I looked at it for days, not knowing why you sent it. Then one morning, barefoot, not knowing why, I slipped my foot into it. Sand. Grains of sand still in it from seven thousand miles away; each one the size of a memory. I will love you forever for that second. I cried. I cried for us. But when we fell apart, you didn’t understand that I would be back. That if you let me have my life, I would be with you forever. But everything you said and did, every kindness, every loving comment had this sentence attached: maybe now she’ll love me. And it made you weak. And if I’m not going to love someone strong, why love at all?
I have found four monologues so far. All of them are dramatic, which is good. But I'm not sure which one, or if either one will work for me.
Here are the monologues I found if you want to read them:
#1:
| Character name: | Angie |
| Gender: | Female |
| Age Range: | 21 — 32 |
| Show: | Patter for the Floating Lady |
| Duration: | 0 — 1 minutes |
| Monologue Type: | dramatic,contemporary |
| Notes: | Angie's failed relationship with the magician is the subject of the play, and as she's suspended she recounts their relationship. |

(softly, more in wonder than in grief)
I can't bear it. They're so young and beautiful. Why did they ever have to get old? Mama, I'm here. I'm grown up. I love you all, everything. - I cant look at everything hard enough. (pause, talking to her mother who does not hear her. She speaks with mounting urgency) Oh, Mama, just look at me one minute as though you really saw me. Mama, fourteen years have gone by. I'm dead. You're a grandmother, Mama. I married George Gibbs, Mama. Wally's dead, too. Mama, his appendix burst on a camping trip to North Conway. We felt just terrible about it - don't you remember? But, just for a moment now we're all together. Mama, just for a moment we're happy. Let's look at one another. (pause, looking desperate because she has received no answer. She speaks in a loud voice, forcing herself to not look at her mother) I can't. I can't go on. It goes so fast. We don't have time to look at one another. (she breaks down sobbing, she looks around) I didn't realize. All that was going on in life and we never noticed. Take me back - up the hill - to my grave. But first: Wait! One more look. Good-by, Good-by, world. Good-by, Grover's Corners? Mama and Papa. Good-bye to clocks ticking? and Mama's sunflowers. And food and coffee. And new-ironed dresses and hot baths? and sleeping and waking up. Oh, earth, you're too wonderful for anybody to realize you. (she asks abruptly through her tears) Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? - every, every minute? (she sighs) I'm ready to go back. I should have listened to you. That's all human beings are! Just blind people.

Sara: I don't have a mother either... she's in heaven with my baby sister... But that doesn't mean I can't talk to her, I talk to her all the time... I tell her everything and I know she hears me because... because that's what angels do. My mom is an angel and yours is too. With beautiful satin wings, a silk dress, and a crown of baby rosebuds, and they all live together in a castle. And do you know what it's made out of? Sunflowers. Hundreds of them, so bright they shine like the sun. And when they want to go anywhere they just whistle, like this...(whistles) and a cloud swoops down to the front gate and picks them up and as they ride through the air, over the moon and through the stars... until they are hovering right above us, that's how they can look down and make sure we're all right. And sometimes they even send messages. Of course you can't hear them with all the noise you were making... but don't worry they'll always try again... just in case you missed them.

The Princess Bride: Buttercup
I love you....I know this must come as something of a surprise, since all I've ever done is scorn you and degrade you and taunt you, but I have loved you for several hours now, and every second, more. I thought an hour ago that I loved you more than any woman has ever loved a man, but a half hour after that I knew that what I felt before was nothing compared to what I felt then. But ten minutes after that, I understood that my previous love was a puddle compared to the high seas before a storm. Do you want me to follow you for the rest of your days? I will do that. Do you want me to crawl? I will crawl. I will be quiet for you or sing for you. Dearest Westley--I've never called you that before, have I?--Westley, Westley, Westley, Westley, Westley,--darling Westley, adored Westley, sweet perfect Westley, whisper that I have a chance to win your love.
What do YOU guys think???? I would love all of your opinions. :)
Sincerely,
Christy Lynn

Fall Musical
Hey, everybody! Christy here! I have to tell something extremely exciting... WE ARE DOING "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" FOR OUR FALL MUSICAL AT HIGH SCHOOL THIS YEAR! I am determined to be in it. For weeks I have been searching for the perfect one-minute monologue. If any of you readers know where I can find a god one, please comment. :) I'd prefer it to be dramatic with a lot of emotion.
I have found a couple of monologues. They seem pretty good for my audition... I just hope one of them will work. I am going to work SUPER hard for this audition. With my monologue and the song provided, I am striving to blow the director's mind. Today in Acting class, we began to discuss some methods of acting. I learned that monologues should obtain action and change. What I mean by that is my teacher said a monologue is a lot more interesting if you have one mood at the beginning, then all of a sudden the plot twists dramatically or you change moods all together. I thought that was interesting.
Truthfully, I would love to be Cinderella. What girl wouldn't? But my goal is to be in the chorus- it'll be a long-shot to be Cinderella. Well, the auditions are in 17 days. Please comment is you have any advice or suggestions. THANK YOU! :)

Introducing Christy Lynn
Christy Lynn... I think that's a pretty cool name. It has a sort of mysterious ring to it, a certain representation of a girl who is trying to make her way in the world. She is lead by the various dreams that motivate her to strive in improving her talents in show business. No, Christy Lynn is not my real name. Let's just say it is a quite an amazing stage name.
Entertainment... what an interesting thing to do. Some people may know what I mean when I say interesting. If you're a dancer, actor/actress, singer- show business can come as stressful and nerve-wracking sometimes. Whether it comes to being backstage, onstage, or AUDITIONS, many things happen that may be considered as crazy- no- quite eventful. But don't get me wrong, I love performing- regardless of that list of cons. Just the feeling of planting my feet on a stage, smiling under the beaming lights, and listening to the musical applause... I feel at home.
I am a singer... I have been singing ever since I can remember and have always enjoyed it. Just the idea of a melodious tune escaping from your mouth is magical. After doing a variety of solos in church and school, I had the opportunity to perform in a professional show at ten. I was a featured singer, and that was a very good experience for me. Since then, I have continued my career by auditioning for talent shows and concerts, even joining choirs. I love to sing, I love music. It is a vital part in my life.
I am an actress... Those who know me will agree that I am quite a dramatic, emotional person. I take some acting at school, and I quite enjoy practicing whenever I get the chance.
I am a musician... I am currently teaching myself the piano right now. I also have history in playing the violin, but who knows where that knowledge went?
I am a born performer... my parents are both entertainers. My dad especially has done many shows and musicals around the world. He is also an accomplished producer and director. So I guess I could say that I have the encouragement and talented teachers needed in one's advancement towards this profession.
So, now that everybody knows a little about me, it's time to explain why I am setting up this blog. I feel like I want to share my experiences with anyone who is aiming for the same goal I have. I hope I am able to provide helpful tips to succeeding in show business and some interesting stories that all of you will take pleasure in. :)
Well, I think that should work well as a first post. I'm crossing my fingers that it captivated the attention of multiple people in this world.
Cordially,
Christy Lynn
