Awkward Part 1

So... The Prince and Cinderella have to be in love, right?? Haha. I'm having a hard time acting out the very first scene: they run into each other and instantly fall in love. Nothing against my prince, it's just really awkward for me. Our director had us hug until she said stop. That was kind of silly. :P I'm just really nervous for when we get to the kissing scene. I'm to try to get more acquainted to this guy, so it's less awkward.

I  just have to remember that everything will be okay. :)

Today, I also want to discuss the idea of dreams and aspirations. A dream or a wish cannot come true unless you act upon it. We have come to this earth to act, not be acted upon. That basically means that instead of "going with the flow" and letting things happen to you, do something to improve or to even have fun! The same thing is with theater... You must put effort into every scene, audition, etc.

So, I think I have put a lot of advice on this blog in the past month or two. How to audition well, how to cope with show business, how to maintain your standards, how to work with beats... I hope I'm helping some of you! :)

Maintaining One's Standards

Some of you may or may not know this, but I am Mormon. Yes, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I truly love my religion. I hope this doesn't offend any of you.

As a member, I feel inclined to continuously strive to obtain a strong faith in Christ and our Heavenly Father as I go about being a good example. With this comes limits and standards I have set for myself. Some of these standards include modesty, appropriate dating, good language, etc. I believe, personally, that these need to be maintained even when performing on stage.

As Cinderella, my director my want me to wear a dress that may be too revealing. Now, revealing for me is showing the shoulders and back- having pants or dresses going above the knees, even. Oh! And it's important to mention how a top can't be too low. I am struggling with a way to bring this up to my director. I am scared, actually. But I have a testimony about how God can help me in any situation... I have faith that if I pray, I will have the courage to shine with virtue. I must also remember that my director is super nice, and I have nothing to worry about. :)

Maybe this was advice to some of you, maybe it offended others. But this is truly what I strive for. I love the Gospel and keeping the standards.

Act 1

So... we have been rehearsing for a total of two weeks, and we already have most of Act 1 done!!!! We should have the first act all set by the end of next week. Now, some advice from me, MEMORIZE YOUR EXTREMELY IMPORTANT LINES. Trust me,  since I memorized my lines and songs, rehearsals have not been nearly as stressful. But I am still extremely tired from night after night of practicing. Truthfully, I love it!

More advice : don't  compare yourself to others. If you get a role, you DESERVED it. I have been having problems in this area, too. Also, I am terrified that I have to kiss someone. I have nothing against the guy - he's  very attractive - I just... I really don't  know.

So... Act 1 is SUPER fun! Bunches of music and some really funny and cute scenes. The stepmother is so-o-o-o mean, by the way. Haha. Well, not the person who is playing my stepmother, but you probably know what I'm saying.

Even more advice: Don't be afraid to be outgoing at rehearsals... Feel comfortable around the cast. It'll be a lot more fun that way.

Blocking

So, we have had three rehearsals with all of the leads. The chorus and mice will join us this next-coming Thursday. Guess how much we've blocked in that amount of time (blocking is determining where you stand, walk, etc. in a scene)? ALL OF ACT 1! Except for the songs, of course. That's a whole new level. I have to memorize Act 1's dialogue and blocking by tomorrow! Haha, oh theater life.

Blocking can definitely be tedious and tiring. 2-3 hour rehearsals + blocking = exhaustion. But I love it, regardless. The cast is great, everybody's nice... I am still thrilled to be doing this. Thursday is when we start putting in the music- a lot of music plus extreme amounts of dancing.

Rehearsing

So, I had my first rehearsal yesterday- it was a a read-through the script, which was mega fun. Haha. I think I killed the highlighter I was using. :) Today I have to rehearse again for THREE HOURS! I'm excited, though.

For the next couple of months, I have to rehearse every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I am absolutely thrilled to be working with an amazing cast!

Now... the script... that thing is fun! With a lot of memorizing, blocking, and true acting/singing- I'm in for a good one, right??? The scene I can't WAIT  to perform is when I sing with my Fairy Godmother. POOF! Pretty dress! :D

My advice to you for memorizing a script:
1.) Become your character (that's a huge process and very important.)
2.) Read your lines out loud
3.) Keep reading your lines out loud
4.) STUDY the script, LOVE the script, LIVE the script
5.) REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT!!!!!!!!

It's pretty much self-explanatory, don't you think? It is truly vital to become familiar with your script for the performance, no joke! Haha.

More Info About the Cast

I am so prepared to have a blast performing as Cinderella with a lot of theater buds. :) We will all, for sure, have exceeding amounts of fun.

So, the musical we are doing is the Rodgers and Hammerstein's version. So yes, as Cinderella, I get to sing various songs... but I also have to kiss someone. :/ Not THAT excited for this little tid bit. Haha. It'll be a blast regardless.

I must always remember the virtue in being humble and not judging others- I also must dwell upon the fact that I should not ever care what other people think about me. It is vital to get on that stage and control the crowd, not the other way around.

The leads in this musical is a double-cast. The director couldn't decide between people, so another girl and I will be taking turns performing. I hope there is not a lot of competition between the two different casts... But of course I will definitely provide bunches of support to the other cast! :)

Rehearsals start tomorrow. I get the script, and we read through it for our first practice. I am absolutely thrilled!!!!!

How My Audition Went

So... I auditioned for the musical Tuesday... I think I did pretty well. The director's said it was really good! But the most exciting thing is that I was called back for the character... CINDERELLA!!!!!!! I'm only against three girls for that part, and I'm really nervous. They had me read some lines to everybody and sing the song again. Everybody said I did perfectly, but I don't know.

It is so-o-o-o-o-o hard to be called back, and I am thrilled I was called back for the part I want! Oh my gosh! I'm very, very, very, very, very excited.

Also, another thing, the director was telling my friend how talented I am. I AM SO NERVOUS! The other girls are very good, too. I don't know if I'll even end up being Cinderella. Maybe. :) I promise I'll let all of you know.
